Organs of examination: 

  • Kidneys, urinary bladder, ureter and prostate(for male only).

Preparation: 

  • Wear loose, comfortable shirt or clothing. Fast at least 8 hours before scanning. Only clear oral fluid is allowed.

Aim: 

  • To assess the size, location and shape of the kidneys and related structures, such as the ureters and bladder. For male to measure the size of the prostate. Ultrasound can detect cysts, tumors, abscesses, obstructions, fluid collection and infection within or around the kidneys and urinary bladder.
  • People with diabetes, hypertension or family history of PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) should have this done on a regular basis to monitor the function of the kidney.
